Kenyan long-distance runner Eliud Kipchoge has reaffirmed his status as the GOAT, crossing the line at the Berlin Marathon in a world record 2:01:39 — and he did so rocking a new version of the Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4%.

The changes are subtle, with a one-piece Flyknit upper added for a better foot-hugging fit. Down below, the ground-breaking energy-returning Zoom-X foam sole remains unchanged, reinforced with the same carbon-fibre plate.

Last year, Kipchoge was a key figure in Nike’s Breaking2 campaign and the design of the initial prototype of the 4% system. With the updated tweaks, perhaps Team Swoosh are looking to level-up the 4 to a 5 or beyond in 2018?

No news as yet on a release date for the updated Nike Zoom Vaporfly, but we’ll keep our ears to the pavement.
