More news has finally emerged surrounding the adidas Project RAP initiative! So far, the innovative platform has unveiled a football boot as well as a basketball shoe, dubbed the BB.01. Today, Team Trefoil announced that the latter project will not only debut on the feet of Mikel Brown Jr at the NBA Summer League, but also see a public release.

‘We built Project RAP around a simple belief that athletes are capable of more, and the right technology can unlock it,’ said Alexander Taylor, SVP of innovation design and concepts at adidas. ‘Just as Summer League introduces the next generation of NBA talent to fans, the Las Vegas event is our way of introducing the future of performance footwear to fans.’

The Summer League will take place in Las Vegas this month, and to coincide with the tournament, adidas are hosting an event at their LV flagship location on July 10. Attendees will get a first-hand look at the development of the BB.01, and have the chance to buy a pair – but only 50 will be made available. Following that, 89 pairs will drop via the brand’s CONFIRMED app, and 30 additional pairs will land exclusively in China on July 14.

Over the past year, 3D-printed footwear has boomed to never-before-seen levels, and adidas are leading the charge with the likes of their Climacool franchise. Today, Team Trefoil have kept the that wave pushing with the debut of a 3D-printed basketball shoe!

This news comes alongside the launch of adidas’s Project RAP (Radical Athlete Perception) program which promises to innovate in sport, creating bespoke products for different athletes and disciplines. This 3D-printed basketball shoe, which hasn’t been named as of yet, is RAP's first focus. The design is similar to the Anthony Edwards and James Harden ranges, and was debuted on the hardwood by Darryl Peterson at the NCAA tournament this week.
