Back in 2024, On announced a new chapter in their journey, dubbed LightSpray. This impressive technology was a brand new way to create aerodynamic and lightweight uppers, with each pair created by an automated robotic arm. Since the initial launch and factory opening, On have made innovations in automated manufacturing, and have now announced a new factory for LightSpray in South Korea.
‘The opening of our second LightSpray™ factory is a monumental milestone for us in mastering this advanced manufacturing process,’ said On co-founder Caspar Coppetti. ‘I want to sincerely congratulate the tremendous effort and dedication of the entire team who made this possible. LightSpray™ is a pinnacle example of how On continues to innovate through Swiss Engineering, dramatically changing the way we can create high-performance shoes with unmatched efficiency, sustainability, and performance results’
The announcement of this factory arrives with the introduction of the brand new LightSpray Cloudmonster 3 Hyper, the first creation in the fresh factory. This new beast has been dubbed ‘the ultimate super trainer for long runs and tempo runs’, coming correct with full-length Helion HF hyper foam. This release also marks On’s mission to bring LightSpray to a wider audience, and their expansion from racing to training footwear.
‘The beauty of LightSpray is that we can precisely program each robot, whether in Zurich or Busan, to execute precisely choreographed movements to craft each shoe’s unique look and feel,’ said On’s chief innovation officer Scott Maguire. ‘The innovation remains distinctly On, distinctly Swiss—made for the world. South Korea represents the perfect territory to learn and implement learnings for our global expansion.’
The On LightSpray Cloudmonster 3 Hyper will debut on March 5 in North America, before a global launch on April 16.
