adidas' record-breaking, wallet-busting super shoe, the Adios Pro Evo 1, caused quite the scene when it broke onto the running circuit in 2023. During its reign of dominance, it clinched plenty of podium finishes and smashed records. But to stay ahead of the pack, it's essential to keep innovating, and so the Three Stripes have finally revealed the pair's successor – the Pro Evo 2.

While don't fix what ain't broke comes to mind, the Pro Evo 2 does feature a few techy tweaks. Managing to keep the same weight as its predecessor, the Pro Evo 2 features a 10% increase in its forefoot stack height and has been designed to deliver 5% more energy return. It's also been kitted out with a new midsole, which packs in 3mm of adidas' LIGHTSTRIKE Pro Evo foam into the forefoot, and a reimagined outsole with an upgraded traction pattern. Much like the Pro Evo 1, the 2's geometry places the rocker at 60% of the length of the shoe.

Speaking on the release, Patrick Nava, VP Product, Running & Credibility Sports at adidas Running says: 'The design process for this shoe was a challenging but ultimately rewarding pursuit that started with simply looking at how we can make the fastest shoe we’ve ever created, even faster – all whilst keeping the weight consistent. The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 is born from our relentless pursuit of speed – refined through rigorous testing – from the high-altitude training camps in Iten, Kenya to our innovation labs in Herzogenaurach. Working alongside our elite athletes like former world record holder Yomif Kejelcha, we’ve developed a shoe that delivers more energy return and a more efficient running economy with no compromise on agility. We believe we’ve delivered the best experience yet and can’t wait to see possibly the fastest shoe we’ve ever created flying on the road during marathon season.'

adidas athlete and record breaker Tigist Assefa continued: 'Having broken the women’s marathon world record in the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, I couldn’t wait to try the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 – and I have been blown away by the experience. It offers incredible lightness while providing energy return and bounce underfoot, giving me a feeling of comfort and confidence to focus on running my best race.'

Having already claimed second and third place (in a photo finish, no less) at the 2025 Boston Marathon, the Adios Pro Evo 2 is off to a flying start. And thankfully now it's not only available to the elites. A very limited run of the Pro Evo 2 will hit the shelves at adidas, with sign-ups open from April 25, before a wider release on August 28. But be warned – the $500 price tag remains.

In other news, here are the other shoes to look out for this marathon season.
