The London Marathon is still days away, but adidas have already started their domination with the announcement of the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3. Not only does the Three Stripes’ latest supershoe follow in the footsteps of its record-breaking predecessor, it’s set to one-up the Evo 2’s accomplishments in every way possible.

The Adios Pro Evo 3 hasn’t won any major races, but it’s breaking barriers even before pounding the pavement – weighing 30 per cent less, delivering 11 per cent forefoot energy return and improving running economy by 1.6 per cent when compared to the Pro Evo 2. It also marks the first-ever sub-100-gram race-day shoe from adidas, and took three years of research to get right.

‘Creating the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 pushed us to think differently from the very start,’ says Patrick Nava, GM of Running at adidas. ’We weren’t just trying to improve on what we’d done before, we wanted to see how far we could go. We went through more than a dozen iterations, working closely with our athletes and testing everywhere from our labs in Herzogenaurach to high-altitude camps in Kenya and Ethiopia. At that level, every detail really matters – we were measuring things down to the nearest nanogram. It was a long process, but it’s led to something we believe genuinely changes what a race-day shoe can feel like.’

adidas didn’t completely overhaul the Adios Pro Evo design, but instead focused on specific parts to provide a 97-gram and super-speedy build. Down below, is a 39mm-stack midsole is cushioned with a new Lightstrike Pro Evo foam that now weighs 50 per cent less than that used in the Pro Evo 2. Adding further to the innovation is the ENERGYRIM tech, which utilises both the carbon plate and foam to provide maximum energy return and efficiency. Even deeper into the design, Continental rubber is employed on the forefoot to add supreme traction during high speeds without compromising weight. Even the revitalised upper contributes to weight reduction: its stitching, laces and everything in between are refined to provide an ultra-lightweight experience.

The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 will drop in a highly limited run on April 25 – just ahead of the London Marathon – before a wider release goes down later this year. The retail price is set for $500.
