The latest in performance linkups comes from Cape Town’s Alex Zono, who brings maximum joy to the rugged Brooks Ghost Trail 1.
Zono founded his eponymous label in 2024 – its most recognisable piece being the ‘I Dig Running’ cap – and now he brings his cheerful DIY world of butterflies, clouds and mountains to Washington-based sportswear brand Brooks. The silhouette Zono has chosen is the trail-geared cousin of the Brooks Ghost, built with DNA LOFT v3 cushioning and durable traction for those who want to traverse any terrain.
‘Well, obviously, the first thing I did when I got the shoe was go running,’ says Zonos. ‘Trip booked, and off to Chamonix we went. Because where else do you go to think about your first trail shoe? Surrounded by some of the most insane mountains in the world, the Trail Jogger started to emerge. The steep climbs, unbelievable heights and immense landscapes became the inspiration for the palette. The first colourway is a true reflection of the mountain itself, inspired by the rocks, snow and clouds you experience up there. The second is much more closely tied to the core Alex Zono colours – the OG hat, which in many ways was the catalyst for everything that came after. So I felt like I had to pay a little cheeky homage to it. Created together with Brooks, we wanted the Ghost Trail to help take you from your front door into a world of butterflies, grazing cows and endless mountain trails. Really, it’s a shoe for those who just dig running.’
The Alex Zono x Brooks Ghost Trail 1 arrived in two colourways exclusively in South Korea on September 3. Don’t fret if you missed out – a global launch will go down on September 10, with special events at London’s Knees Up and New York’s Extra Butter going down between September 12-13.
