January Will See the Converse SHAI 001 ‘Ares Grey’ Drop

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s first signature with Converse was one of the releases that defined the 2025 sneaker scene. It was a long lead-up to the actual launch of the SHAI 001, but since the ‘Butter’ drop, SGA has blessed release calendars with a slew of colourways – including the ‘Clean Slate’ – to kick off 2026. Keeping consistent, the OKC guard has now come through with the ‘Ares Grey’, set to launch this month.

You may have seen this iteration before, and that’s because it was tapped to represent SGA's son in the ‘Family Pack’ – but ultimately, it didn’t end up releasing with the other three. Similarly to its predecessors, the same construction is employed, using a single tone throughout the entire hoop sneaker. During the holiday season we asked SGA why he opted for monochrome looks for his designs: ‘The silhouette of the SHAI 001 is so bold and pronounced, I wanted a more subtle palette that complemented the shape,' he said. 'Basically, I wanted the shoe to do the talking instead of relying on loud colourways. Giving people a window into who I am off the court through the shoe has been an added bonus.’

While this is a fresh colourway, the build comprises the same material mix and tech as its forerunners – expect a neoprene and synthetic leather upper that sits atop Zoom Air units in the midsole to provide energy return and stability.
