Going with fries, drink and a side? Well, that’s what you’d expect when you pull up to McDonald’s golden arches – but not in Sedona, a place where the fast food chain’s yellow beacons are switched out to blue and inspire Nike’s next Book 2.

Yup, in the heart of Arizona’s desert, things don’t look quiet like your regular Macca’s. The famous burger monolith opened their sun-baked location in 1993, and instantly caused chaos with officials who felt the signage would clash with the surrounding red rock landscape.

Because of that, a compromise was made – the brand’s iconic bold lettering were swapped for a muted turquoise blue, chosen to sit more naturally within the setting. Stepping in real quick, the rule itself was actually put into place in early 90s, and has since meant that the QSR hot-spot has turned into an iconic tourist landmark.

Moving to the launch details, the Book 2 ‘Sedona’ comes dressed in muted sand and warm brown tones, building a base that feels tied directly to sand-swept surroundings. Cracked detailing runs across the upper, giving the model a distressed finish that mirrors the rock formations in the area.

Notably, the silhouette’s earthy base is broken up by hits of turquoise blue, pulled from the McDonald’s signage in the area. The colour also shows up across the Swoosh, inner lining, outsole, branding hits and even the special packaging and tissue paper, binding the whole release together for take away.

Move over Grimace – the McDonald’s x Nike Book 2 ‘Sedona’ is expected to hit shelves on June 2.

In other news, the Kids of Immigrants x Nike Total 90 Mule has surfaced in official pics.
