Cut Out for Greatness: The Air Jordan 41 Is a Real Gem
We’re officially entering a new chapter of hooping, as Jordan Brand have unveiled the Air Jordan 41. The AJ40 marked a major milestone in the GOAT’s signature line, but now the team behind the Jumpman are focused on how to shape the future of the game. Equipped with feedback from various generations of balling athletes, the latest silhouette is one of the brand’s lightest and most responsive models yet.
A first for Jordan is the nano-print mesh upper, which carries minimal weight and makes sure feet stay cool as they throw down in the paint, and also sports a cross-hatch print that allows for a variety of graphic and colour treatments. The technology packed underfoot includes the same Zoom Strobel and ZoomX midsole seen on the Air Jordan 40, but with the addition of a Zoom Air bag to keep players cushioned as they glide across the court.
Similar to many other Air Jordan silhouettes, supercars were used as a point of reference in the design – a window incorporated into the outsole reveals all the shoes’ tech, akin to the visible engines of the world’s fastest vehicles. Jordan Brand also wanted to turn a new page in MJ’s lineage by not depending on nostalgia as a moodboard for the AJ41’s colourways. Instead, they found inspiration in gemstones – each carrying its own symbolism and connection to #23’s mentality. ‘Ruby’ for strength, ‘Amethyst’ for intuition, and ‘Opal’ for creativity are just a few examples, with many other gems prepped for representation down the line.

We shouldn’t be surprised that the Jumpman is still flying high 23 years after the GOAT retired. As Michael Jordan’s legacy lives on, so does his signature line, with the Air Jordan 41 set to be the next silhouette to leap from the free-throw line. Initially expected to debut in July, the model will now be launching in its ‘Hyper Cobalt’ colourway this August. Michael Jordan’s Air Jordan line is the longest and most successful signature sneaker franchise of all time. The earlier editions – like the AJ1, AJ3, AJ4 and AJ5 – are forever cemented in basketball lore, and have remained ever-present thanks to retros becoming a regular occurrence on release calendars. There are also a bevy of newer iterations, like the Air Jordan 39, that are souped up with the latest in basketball tech, and have continued the franchise’s legacy on the court. In July last year, Jordan Brand debuted the Air Jordan 40 – and a year on, they’re now rumoured to be approaching the launch of the Air Jordan 41.
An official confirmation is yet to come through, but industry insiders , , and have shared that the silhouette will make a debut this year. Not only that: They’ve also received word of over 10 colourways that will touch down over the coming 12 months. There’s only a mockup available for the newest MJ signature, but it confirms Team Swoosh’s hardwood tech is present in the build. You can expect a stretch bootie collar alongside a woven upper, while down below, the midsole will be made with CushIon 3.0 foam. There’ll be a ZoomX unit in the forefoot and Zoom Air in the heel, in addition to a full-length Zoom Air Strobel unit.
The first Air Jordan 41 will drop in ‘Hyper Cobalt’ on July 9, with a retail price of $205. You can find a full list of colourways below, but expect special editions like a ‘Space Jam’-inspired pair, a ‘Velvet Brown’ for All-Star Weekend, and a classic ‘White Metallic’.
