Silver Surfer has been real quiet ever since Minted NY debuted their upcoming Saucony colab. Looking to create the most metallic shoe possible, the independent, runner-centric brand has pieced together the Saucony Endorphin Pro 5 ‘Chromium’.
Founded in 2021 during the post-pandemic boom of run clubs, Minted NY has been focused on building for the complete athlete through elevated takes on running gear. Maintaining that approach on their third project with Saucony, the premier race-day silhouette looks like it was dipped in liquid metal. Playing into the ‘Dr Deminted’ character, the sneaker is the mad scientist’s industrial experiment gone wrong, resulting in this ultra-shiny compound.
The midsole caters to the molten-metal aesthetic, resembling the space blankets given to marathon runners after a gruelling competition. Amidst the chromed-out design are references to Minted NY, with electric blue and embossed branding on respective sides of the heel. The brand’s ‘M’ logo appears on the tongue strap, and an M-shaped underlay in the same shade of blue can be seen through the mesh on the medial side – tying back to the brand’s previous colab on the Endorphin Speed 4.
The Minted NY x Saucony Endorphin Pro 5 ‘Chromium’ will deliver its first runner’s high at a pop-up event in London at Saucony’s Covent Garden store on May 16, followed by a wider online release on May 19.
