Nike's Air Tech Challenge 2 'Mag' Is 1.21 Gigawatts of Agassi Energy
Great Scott in a sweaty headband – the Agassi/McFly mashup you didn't know you wanted is coming in hot like a Delorean outta 1990. Nike's Air Tech Challenge II is getting a Back to the Future-centric colourway, and it doesn't take a wild imagination to visualise the Las Vegas Kid popping one straight down the service line while rocking these on-foot.
Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the 1990 Air Tech Challenge II arrived during US tennis legend Andre Agassi's career zenith. With its visible Max Air heel unit, a cushy foam collar, and a robust rubber outsole that could handle all kinds of court surfaces, the model made an enormous splash for its outre design and tradition-defying colourways. Nike's real ace-stroke of genius was to lace it up on tennis's quintessential 90s rudeboi Andre Agassi, who wore the model in its 'Hot Lava' colourway during his maiden Grand Slam final at the 1990 French Open.
After bringing the OG 'Hot Lava' back Nike decided to retro the Air Tech Challenge II in a string of other colourways across 2025, but this freshest iteration is in a time machine all of its own. It's inspired by the palette of Marty McFly's self-lacing Nike Mag sneakers from Back to the Future Part II (1989), it sports a 'Photon Dust' upper, 'Dusty Cactus' and 'Picante Red' accents, and a supremely 90s 'Blue Tint' gradient graphic creeping up from a speckled midsole.
The Nike Air Tech Challenge II 'Mag' lands August 18 via SNKRS and select retailers for $180, just in time for the 2026 US Open.
