Nike Debut a Two-Stack of Specialised Hybrid Sneakers
You might think we’re pulling your leg when we say there’s a racing shoe stable enough to lift weights in, but Nike have just done it. After the Swoosh unveiled their first two HYROX sneakers last month, official images of the speed demon Hybrid Fly model have arrived. While the Hybrid RN training shoe is set for a global launch on October 8, the Hybrid Fly won’t land on shelves until April 2027. Hybrid training is for the true gains-guzzlers among us. These athletes are all about meshing strength and cardio in the one session, with programs that cover a range of demanding exercises from running and swimming to sled-pushing and medicine-ball work. The obvious question is, 'What shoes are they wearing?' – because unless an athlete wants to unlace one pair and lace up another in the middle of their session, they'll be forced to choose between speedy running-centric shoes and stable lifting-focused shoes. Nike have given the question a novel new answer with two fresh silhouettes: the Hybrid Fly and the Hybrid RN.
While both models are designed so that hybrid athletes don't have to compromise on their footwear, the primary difference between the two is that Nike Hybrid Fly is positioned for comp day, while the RN is for training. Team Swoosh worked with pro hybrid athletes Dylan Scott and Lauren Weeks as well as everyday athletes to craft, hone and test both designs for hybrid racing and training requirements.
The Hybrid RN unites an engineered mesh construction with ReactX foam and a forefoot Air Zoom unit to give wearers the stability demanded by lifts, while also delivering a responsive and super-smooth ride. Meanwhile, the wide outsole with dual-rubber finish for superlative traction on varied surfaces, and the upper's X-shaped overlays steady the foot during transitions.
By contrast, the Hybrid Fly amps everything up for the major demands of race day. A combo of ZoomX foam, full-length carbon Flyplate and dual forefoot Air Zoom units work together to keep speed at its peak, and like the RN, the model sports a wider base to keep athletes steady as they move between exercises. The Fly also packs race-lockdown laces, a four-zone traction system with sticky rubber, and a lightweight engineered mesh upper.
The Nike Hybrid RN lands first, releasing in China on September 24 and then becoming globally available on October 8. There's still several months to wait for the Nike Hybrid Fly, which is due to touch down globally in April 2027.
