Bases Loaded: Nike Knock It Out the Park With Kobe 5 Protro 'Dodgers'

It’s hard to discuss Kobe Bryant without mentioning his deep connection to Los Angeles. No matter the sport, Bryant’s presence was always a welcomed sight – especially when he appeared at Dodger Stadium. After applying the Los Angeles Dodgers’ team colours to the Nike Kobe 6 Protro last year, the Kobe 5 Proto is continuing that same theme.

Newly surfaced images reveal Dodger blue landing across the entire upper, accented with a grey Swoosh featuring a white border. Red baseball-style stitching catches on to the rear panel as a direct reference to the back-to-back World Series winning team. Additional hits of red and white appear via Kobe sheath logos on the tongue and outsole, as well as his signature on the heel.

Both the Black Mamba’s numbers ‘8’ and ‘24’, are applied to patches behind each tongue, mimicking the numbered plates found on every stadium seat. While not visible in these photos, the insoles are rumoured to include an image of the last time Bryant came to the field to cheer on the City of Angels – a heartfelt tribute to his unwavering support for the ‘Blue Crew’.

The Nike Kobe 5 Protro ‘Dodgers’ is currently expected to be pitched to fans on September 8 via the SNKRS app and select Nike Basketball retailers, for a price of $200. No word yet on whether they will release in a similar fashion to the Kobe 6, which had an early drop at Undefeated, but be sure to keep it locked to Sneaker Freaker for all updates.
