PUMA Go HAM on Tech with the Deviate NITRO Elite HYROX
The first sneaker purpose-built for HYROX is here – and you better believe PUMA have ensured it'll help you crush every step, rep and jump. The Deviate NITRO Elite HYROX comes packed with the absolute bleeding-edge of the Big Cat's footwear tech, and positions the brand as the top ally in one of the world's fastest-growing sports.
Never heard of it? Allow us to educate. HYROX is a punishing (but rewarding) fitness race, which combines eight stations with eight kilometres of running. It starts off with a one-kilometre run – no sweat, eh? Then you've got 1000 metres on the SkiErg machine, which simulates Nordic skiing with poles and all. After that, another one-kilometre run. The second station is the 50-metre sled push. Then another run. Oh, you tired? We haven't even got to the third station yet. That's a 50-metre sled pull. The following stations are 80 metres of burpee broad jumps, 1000 metres on the rowing machine, a 200-metre farmer's carry with kettlebells, 100 lunges with a massive sandbag on your shoulders, and finally 100 wall balls, which involve squatting with a medicine ball then exploding upwards to throw the ball high against a wall. And of course, there's a one-kilometre run in between each of those stations.
That's a lot of different movements putting a lot of different demands on your agility, strength and balance – and that's precisely what PUMA are addressing with their Deviate NITRO Elite HYROX shoe.
There's four parts to the sneaker's tech: the high-traction PUMAGRIP outsole (which features a specially engineered lug pattern for multi-surface control), the brand's nitrogen-infused NITROFOAM Elite cushioning (to deliver max energy return), a freshly curated carbon fibre PWRPLATE (for propulsion and support) and a super lightweight ULTRAWEAVE upper for breathability.
'Having partnered with HYROX since their first ever race in 2018, we understand the needs of the athletes and community better than anyone,' said Romain Girard, PUMA's VP of innovation. PUMA CEO Arthur Hoeld adds: 'HYROX athletes sit at the intersection of endurance, strength, and mental resilience. We are proud to support this growing global community and push the boundaries of innovation with the first shoe built specifically for their sport.'
While PUMA's Deviate NITRO Elite HYROX doesn't officially launch until February 19, it will be on the feet of PUMA's elite athletes at the HYROX Melbourne event. In Feb, you'll be able to grab the shoe on PUMA.com, in PUMA flagship stores, at HYROX events, on the HYROX site, and at selected retailers globally.
