If there's one major criticism of modern football, it's that everything is too safe… too formulaic. Off-the-cuff, gung-ho attacking play has given way to anodyne data insights and nonsense like “progressive carries” instead of simply bodying your man.
Enter the PUMA Unscripted pack, a clarion call to the playmakers and free spirits who still have the urge to ball-out unpredictably, just as they did in playgrounds as a kid.
Leading the pack is the Future 9, PUMA’s flagship innovation boot, which works off an ‘Ultra Blue’ base with contrasting white tones adorning the pouncing cat logo. Delectable ‘Fizzy Melon’ accents imbue the upper and soleplate for some tropical pop.
Next up, the Ultra Nitro 7, engineered for speed, takes a more graphic approach, bisecting the boot diagonally between ‘Ultra Blue’ and snow-white tones from forefoot to heel. Restrained hits of ‘Lime Squeeze’ illuminate the studs and tongue. It’s arguably the most ambitious colour treatment of the three, and no doubt the most likely to stand out on the feet of explosive wingers in the months ahead.
Finally, the King, the elder statesman of PUMA’s boot stable, retains its usual no-nonsense complexion, featuring a deep blue base with black Formstrips offset by neon trim. Further ‘Lime Squeeze’ hits on the branding and soleplate keep it tied to the wider pack without disturbing the silo’s typically restrained, no-BS aesthetic.
Will the PUMA Unscripted pack ignite a newfound sense of adventure in the game? Probably not, but those wearing the boots will look a lot rizzier anyway. Discover the collection, including Academy, turf and artificial-grass versions, as well as take-down iterations, via PUMA.
