Both Nike and adidas Took Gold at the Chicago Marathon
More than 50,000 people from over 100 countries participated in the Chicago Marathon on October 12 – a killer turnout for the Windy City's annual race. The 47th 42-kilometre event provided a thrillingly close comp between the many elite runners, but only six received those coveted podium positions – with Nike and adidas each taking a gold medal.
Jacob Kiplimo took the number 1 spot in the Men’s category, reaching the finish line in 2:02:23. This is only the athlete’s second major marathon appearance after his inaugural outing in London, at which he achieved second place – a well-deserved upgrade for the Ugandan talent. On-foot he donned the Alphafly 3 – Nike’s premier super shoe built for marathon miles. Coming in close second was Kenyan athlete Amos Kipruto with a time of 2:03:54, and in third place fellow Kenyan Alex Masai, who ran 2:04:37.
Ethiopian powerhouse Hawi Feysa took home her first-ever major marathon victory, boasting a time of 2:14:56. Helping seal the deal for the 26-year-old was the adidas Adizero Pro Evo 1 – one of the many elite supershoes in the Team Trefoil stable. Taking second place was fellow Ethiopian Megertu Alemu with 2:17:18, and third was Tanzanian athlete Magdalena Shauri with a time of 2:18:23.
