Air Max 1

Having inserted air into the Tailwind runner as early as 1978, it would be another decade before Nike unleashed the true potential of air. Seeing is truly believing, and Tinker Hatfield’s inspired idea to open up the midsole to inquiring minds was the master stroke that heralded a new era of Nike supremacy. With its glowing red band, chunky rump and explosive airbags, the Air Max 1 unwittingly launched a franchise that is still going strong 'til this day. It is truly a revolution in the evolution of footwear.
