Released in 1990, the New Balance 997 is considered a cult classic. With a rugged Polyurethane midsole structure that housed both ENCAP and C-CAP inserts, the 997 tech-sheet was fully loaded. XAR-1000 carbon rubber heel pads and the Hytrel thermoplastic ‘collar lockdown strap’ were other innovations introduced by designer Steven Smith.
