Nike

Founded in 1964 by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, Nike began under the name Blue Ribbon Sports, selling Onitsuka Tigers (now ASICS). After Onitstuka threatened the relationship, Knight and Bowerman created Nike, a brand that would manufacture their own bespoke shoes as designed by Bowerman. Since the official name-change in 1971, the brand have forged a remarkable path through the industry. Nike are famed for their innovation and have consistently pushed the boundaries of design and technology, from the introduction of Air cushioning in 1979 to the development of Flyknit and React foam. Collaborations with athletes and designers have yielded iconic silhouettes like the Air Max 1 and the Air Jordan line, while beyond footwear, Nike's influence extends into streetwear and fashion, solidifying their status as the number one sportswear brand.
