Kyrie Irving and the Shoe Surgeon Team Up for 1-of-1 ANTA KAI 1
Kyrie Irving may have shifted his allegiance, but he continues to boast some of the coldest colourways on the hardwood. His most recent effort involves a collaboration with renowned customiser The Shoe Surgeon, who this time took his toolkit to the ANTA KAI 1. A dip-dyed and hand-painted edition was custom-made for the Dallas Mavericks season opener and we’ve now got a closer look at the DIY masterpiece. A homage to the history and legacy of the Dallas Mavericks, the KAI 1 takes visual cues from the retro palette of Mavs 90s jerseys, a gaudy tone still etched in the brains of all hoopers. As is the case with all of Kyrie shoes, regardless of the brand, there’s intricate storytelling across the entire model. Perhaps most saliently, Kyrie’s parents' names are both engraved on the custom lockdown straps.
The Shoe Surgeon has been working very closely with Kyrie of late. Recently, the two hooked up in China over summer, with The Surgeon remixing various KAI 1 models, including the KAI 1 Speed and KAI Tribe.
Unfortunately, given the fact that these are 1-of-1, you’ll have to admire these from quite some distance. But expect plenty of KAI 1 colourways to land on shelves as the 2024-25 NBA season kicks off.
