Nike’s Vaporfly series remains at the forefront of innovation in long-distance running. Since its debut in 2017, the line has become a top choice for both elite athletes and amateur runners eager to smash their personal bests. Known for its cutting-edge technology and ultra-lightweight design, the series is set to expand with the highly anticipated release of the Nike Vaporfly 4.
According to this fourth iteration is the lightest yet, weighing in at approximately 190 grams for a men’s size 10 – about 10 grams lighter than the Vaporfly 3. Underfoot, the Vaporfly 4 features a full-length carbon Flyplate for enhanced propulsion and the responsive ZoomX cushioning runners have come to expect. Notably, the new model omits the visible Air pod in the forefoot – a hallmark of its predecessor.
Nike are reportedly gearing up to launch the Vaporfly 4 in April, with a retail price of $280. Early previews showcase two muted colourways: ‘White/Gridiron’ and ‘Sail/Black'.
The Vaporfly series has left an indelible mark on running, playing a pivotal role in record-breaking performances such as Eliud Kipchoge’s 2018 marathon world record. Yet, it hasn’t escaped controversy. Critics argue that the line’s performance-enhancing technology provides an unfair advantage, sparking debates likened to ‘mechanical doping’.
