One of the hardest debut signature sneakers in recent years, Anthony Edwards's adidas AE 1 captivated the league when it first hit the hardwood during the 2023-2024 NBA season. Galvanised by Ant Man’s jaw-dropping NBA Playoff run with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the silhouette continues to arrive in fresh renditions, including patriotic remixes for the Paris Olympics.

The latest colourway to arrive pays homage to the mural that was created in Ant’s hometown of Oakland City, Atlanta, which features Edwards’s late mother and grandmother. The mural was unveiled on September 23, 2023 at a community event where Edwards showcased his new AE 1 sneaker. After the event, Edwards also changed his jersey number from one to five, as both his mother and grandmother died on the fifth of different months, and Ant's birthday falls on August 5 – which adidas have appropriately dubbed National Anthony Edwards Day.

Built with adi’s patented Primeknit uppers, the AE 1 utilises a Generative Support Wing, a bold and distinct TPU design that provides stability and containment. In the engine room down below, the AE 1 features adidas’ BOOST and Lightstrike cushioning technology. The new innovation was initially introduced in 2019 and was unveiled as part of adi’s running and basketball lines. It’s now been incorporated into various high-performance models from Team Trefoil.

The adidas AE 1 Low ‘Mural’ launches on August 5 at adidas and select retailers. For more hardwood performance, make sure to check out our comprehensive history on women’s signature sneakers.
